If at first one doesn’t succeed they should keep searching and striving for the excellence of success. Jon Krakauer shows this during his attempt to climb the devil’s thumb. At first he fails because the passage to the top of the mountain is too dangerous and he can’t go any further. But then he remembers seeing a safe passage that he could take to get to the top. He finds the passage again and climbs it finally reaching his goal. Another life lesson is things aren’t as appreciated unless they are shared with others. Chris finally realizes this at the end of the book, and he even admits that he was wrong and that his life wasn’t as good without being able to share his joy with others. This leaves an uneasy feeling whenever one thinks about his death. He died young and unhappy because he was lonely and didnt get to share his joy with others.
